In my research I study various aspects of fluid dynamics. I am especially interested in mechanistic understanding of how fluids become unstable and consequently change their flow pattern by generating waves and vortices. Surprisingly, very similar mechanisms of fluid instabilities are found in very different environments and on very different scales. These range from quantum phenomena, via deformation of sediments during earthquakes, through shaping the weather in the atmosphere, meandering ocean currents, to forming vortices in proto-planetary accretion discs that allow planet formation.
